The Mandarin Matrix’ Dual Language Immersion Proficiency Builders series is a complete curriculum co-developed with schools and professional teachers in the US. It is specially designed for Dual Language Immersion programs in the US or Chinese bilingual programs in other areas. The series can also be mapped into CLIL programs.
The materials are available in print and on the Mandarin Matrix Online Classroom, with levels ranging from foundation (0 starter) to intermediate 4 level (Pre-AP).

We suggest that each teaching unit should cover at least one language arts standard and one ACTFL Can-do statement, and this curriculum offers the opportunity to do so. Our curriculum is closely aligned to those standards, that teachers can save time mapping standards into teaching plans.
The DLI Proficiency Builders are designed with the “spiral pedagogy”, which means key words are highly repeated or reused, and are also expanded to wider and higher ranges. The “i+1 principle” and “Comprehensible input” pedagogies are implemented to make sure students fulfill all the requirements before going to the next steps.
The DLI Proficiency Builders come in story format and was designed based on the concepts of TPRS. In the lower levels, each unit has 3 stories with the same set of key words repeatedly used in different combination/settings across the stories. The background of the 3 stories are based on students’ family, school and playtime. Students are able to get a sense of the language naturally through reading about the context in different settings.
At the Intermediate levels, the curriculum not only has stories but also introduces texts in different formats and topics which cover all AP themes and high-frequency topics. Helping and inspiring middle school and above students to conduct higher level discussions and acquire more advanced languages.
The curriculum includes integrated curriculum maps and detailed teacher’s guides, highlighting teaching points, key grammar concepts, oral focus, teaching objectives, effective evaluation suggestions, and related readings, which help teachers to formulate each reading lesson’s plan.
Mandarin Matrix also offers K-5 Math readers that are aligned to the US Common Core Math standards, and Grade 1-6 Science readers following the New Generation Science Standards. Both subjects are aligned to Mandarin Matrix’ DLI Proficiency Builder readers.
