Mandarin Matrix YCT Stories

Mandarin Matrix YCT Stories series has a new levle! Alone with YCT Level 1, 2, 3, the new level YCT Level 4 has published on Mandarin Matrix Online Classroom for teachers and learners to choose from. Here are some highlights about this series:

#1: TPRS story books for YCT Chinese test

Aligned with the Youth Chinese Test (YCT) test 1, 2, 3 & 4 and thoughtfully designed and illustrated based on Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling (TPRS) teaching method. Wrap focused keywords and grammar in fun stories/reading books.

#2: Now you have a full set of 4 levels

We have YCT1 15 books, YCT2 15 books, YCT3 25 books, and YCT4 35 books. 90 story books in total. They are all in our Mandarin Matrix Online Classroom. Both Simplified and Traditional Chinese are available.

We also have printed materials as below

• YCT Stories: Level 1-3

• YCT Flashcards: Level 1-3

• YCT Teacher’s Packs: Level 1-3

Can be purchased separately or in discounted Combo Packs

#3: Systematic spiral pedagogy that recycles vocab and learning points

Not only vocabulary and grammar points are repeated at different levels, but also they are expanded to longer sentences or deeper concepts.

For example, YCT1 Book 07 is about family relationship:

YCT2 Book 08 in the same family, we use some learnt vocab and grammar points to create another topic about artwork and hobbies.

#4: Topics are also repeated but wider

YCT1 focuses on building up language skills. There are more daily conversations and language added in YCT 2 & 3. In YCT 4, we can see deeper concepts like culture, environment, and future plans etc.

#5: “CAFE” teaching method supported

The most common way of teaching a language is to teach vocabulary, then grammar points or sentence patterns, and then hoping the students can assemble them into a whole dialog or passage. But at Mandarin Matrix, we are a big supporter of the “CAFE” teaching method.

Which means we read a passage or even a story first, then disassemble them into key learning points. So all the small particles serve some purposes in the original passage. We see lots of successful cases using this method.

#6: Supporting materials available

• Printable worksheets for learners to feel this language with real handwriting.

• Teacher Packs highlight the main teaching points, including key grammatical concepts

and outcome assessment

• Multi-use, wipe-clean YCT Flashcards are a effective resource to help boost character

recognition (only available in print)
